A deep dive into how visibility scores are calculated and interpreted
Score Overview
The MeasureLLM visibility score is a composite metric from 0-100 that represents your brand's overall presence and prominence in AI-generated responses for specific keywords.
Score Components
The visibility score is calculated from 8 weighted factors, totaling up to 100 points:
1. Mention Presence (20 points)
The foundation of your score is whether your brand appears at all:
- Mentioned: +20 points
- Not mentioned: 0 points
A brand that never appears will have a score of 0, regardless of other factors.
2. Position/Prominence (15 points)
Where you appear in the response significantly impacts your score:

| Middle | +8 | Mentioned mid-response |

3. List Position (10 points)
When AI provides a list of options, your position in that list matters:
- #1 in list: +10 points
- #2 in list: +8 points
- #3 in list: +6 points
- Top half of list: +4 points
- Bottom half of list: +2 points
4. Recommendation Strength (15 points)
How strongly the AI recommends your brand:
- Strong recommendation: +15 points — "I highly recommend..."
- Moderate recommendation: +10 points — "[Brand] is a good option..."
- Weak recommendation: +5 points — "[Brand] is one option..."
- Negative mention: +0 points — "[Brand] has issues with..."
5. Citation Quality (15 points)
Whether AI cites your content affects your score:
- Official source: +15 points — AI links to your official domain
- Authoritative source: +12 points — Referenced as trusted source
- Review site: +8 points — Cited from review/comparison sites
- Generic citation: +4 points — Basic URL mentioned
- No citation: +0 points — Just brand name mentioned
6. Sentiment (10 points)
The tone of how AI describes your brand:
- Very positive: +10 points
- Neutral: +5 points
- Negative: +0 points
7. Competitor Comparison (10 points)
How you compare when competitors are also mentioned:
- Favorable comparison: +10 points — Positioned better than competitors
- Neutral comparison: +5 points — Mentioned equally
- Standalone mention: +3 points — No direct comparison made
- Unfavorable comparison: +0 points — Positioned worse than competitors
8. Factual Consistency (5 points)
How accurate the AI's information about your brand is:
- Verified accurate: +5 points
- Likely accurate: +4 points
- Uncertain: +2 points
- Potential hallucination: +0 points

Score Calculation Formula
The final visibility score is calculated by adding all applicable component scores:
Score = Mention + Position + List + Recommendation + Citation + Sentiment + Comparison + Consistency Where (maximum points): - Mention = 0 to 20 (brand mentioned or not) - Position = 0 to 15 (prominence in response) - List = 0 to 10 (position in recommendation lists) - Recommendation = 0 to 15 (strength of recommendation) - Citation = 0 to 15 (quality of citations) - Sentiment = 0 to 10 (tone of mention) - Comparison = 0 to 10 (competitive positioning) - Consistency = 0 to 5 (factual accuracy) Maximum possible score: 100 points
Platform-Specific Scores
You'll see different scores for different AI platforms because:
- Training data varies between platforms
- Some platforms update knowledge more frequently
- Response formats and citation behaviors differ
- Each platform has different recommendation patterns

You appear prominently. Look for opportunities to move from mention to recommendation.
You're present but not prominent. Focus on improving content authority and citation opportunities.
Occasional mentions only. Prioritize this keyword if it's important to your business.
You're rarely or never mentioned. Significant optimization effort needed.
