Adding & Managing Keywords

Learn how to add and organize keywords for effective AI visibility tracking across 8 platforms

What Are Keywords?

Keywords in MeasureLLM are the queries, questions, or topics you want to track across AI platforms. Unlike traditional SEO keywords, these should reflect how people naturally ask questions to AI assistants - conversational, specific, and often in question form.

AI Search vs Traditional SEO

AI users ask complete questions like "What CRM is best for a 10-person startup?" rather than typing "CRM startup". Track keywords that match natural conversation patterns.

Types of Keywords to Track

A comprehensive keyword strategy includes multiple types of queries that capture different stages of the customer journey:

Brand Keywords

Direct mentions of your brand name

"What is [YourBrand]?"

"Is [YourBrand] good for small businesses?"

"[YourBrand] reviews"

Track direct brand awareness and sentiment in AI responses

Category Keywords

Your product category or industry

"Best CRM software for startups"

"Top project management tools 2025"

"Most affordable email marketing platforms"

Monitor visibility in product discovery queries

Problem-Based Keywords

Problems your product solves

"How to improve team productivity"

"How to track customer interactions"

"Ways to automate marketing emails"

Capture users searching for solutions you provide

Competitor Keywords

Competitor comparisons and alternatives

"[Competitor] alternatives"

"[Competitor] vs [YourBrand]"

"Is [Competitor] worth it?"

Understand positioning against competitors

Best Practices

Use Natural Language

AI platforms respond to conversational queries. Instead of "CRM software," try "What is the best CRM software for my business?" or "Which CRM should a startup use?"

Include Question Variations

Track multiple ways users might ask the same question. For example: "Best CRM for startups", "What CRM should a startup use?", and "Recommended CRM software for new businesses".

Monitor Competitor Keywords

Track keywords that mention your competitors to see when you appear as an alternative. Example: "[Competitor] alternatives" or "[Competitor] vs other options".

Review and Refine Regularly

AI platforms evolve, and so should your keyword strategy. Review your keywords monthly to add new relevant queries and remove underperforming ones.

Avoid These Common Mistakes

  • • Using only short, generic keywords (too broad)
  • • Tracking too many keywords without focus (dilutes insights)
  • • Ignoring competitor and comparison keywords
  • • Not updating keywords as your product evolves

Organizing Keywords

Keep your keywords organized for easier analysis and management:

  • TagsAdd labels like "brand", "competitor", "product", or "problem-based" to categorize keywords
  • GroupsCreate keyword groups for different campaigns, products, or focus areas
  • PriorityMark high-priority keywords to focus attention on your most important queries
